Slow notes on film photography, early walks and cameras that fit in a coat pocket. Written whenever a roll comes back from the lab.

Developing colour at home, badly and then less badly

The first three rolls came out with a green cast and a strange band across the frames. The fourth was fine. What changed was mostly temperature and patience.

Six in the morning along the river

The light is flat and blue for about twenty minutes, then everything turns gold at once. You get maybe eight frames before the cyclists arrive.

A cheap fifty is enough

Every year I think about buying a faster lens, and every year the old 50mm keeps doing the job. Notes on why the constraint helps more than it hurts.

Scanning negatives with a phone and a lightbox

Not archival, not perfect, but fast enough that I actually look at every roll the same evening instead of letting them pile up in a drawer.
